What Will Happen to the Medium Platform? This Tarot Reading Can Tell You
Will it implode, or does it have a chance to turn things around?
You likely have seen a lot of rants about Medium on the Substack platform lately.
And I will be adding to it as well because I used to be an avid Medium writer. I even marketed one of my publications, Tarot Talk, often.
However, since the unsavory changes have happened, Medium looks lackluster, and I have lost my mojo when contributing there.
I have not written it off entirely because some freelance writing clients look at my stuff there.
However, I am doing a lot less work there, and until something changes, I will keep my efforts low.
I don't know what Tony is doing to the platform, but whatever he is doing is not working out since it is causing many writers to leave in droves or causing those staying for the time being, like myself, to reduce their efforts.
On Medium Day, August 12th, he warned everyone not to use Medium as a full-time income source, and it was his way of warning writers there that earnings would be cut.
I will be lucky to make one-tenth of what I made last month and in previous months for October.
Many Medium writers and ex-writers think that the platform will implode.
I did a quick past, present, and future three-card reading to see what could be in store for Medium.
Remember, none of this is written in stone, so don't take what I put here as the gospel, as you never should with any tarot reading.
What is in Store For Medium Tarot Reading
I did the reading with my Penguin deck, and I pulled the Four of Wind (Swords) as the card of the past, the Ten of Wind (Swords) as the card for the present, and the King of Ice (Cups) for the card of the future.
Let's break this down so I can share my interpretation.
Past: Four of Swords
The Four of Swords in the past position suggests that those running the Medium platform experienced a rest or a break in their plans. And that could be because things were quiet when things were more stable.
This card indicates that they may have had time to reflect and introspect to reassess their goals and aspirations for Medium.
If that is the case, they messed up when they did it because crap is hitting the fan there! I have no idea what they were thinking. It shows in the present card.
Present: Ten of Swords
It is not a surprise, based on the events that are happening at Medium, that the Ten of Swords shows up, as it can represent a problematic ending or a sense of defeat.
It does not take a rocket scientist to see that they are going through a challenging phase. It is apparent. They made these changes that infuriated loyal writers, which is why so many are leaving the platform in droves.
And the ones like myself that are sticking around for the time being are not doing it for the love of Medium, as there are other reasons they must stay.
However, I want to hold out hope that a positive change may eventually happen, but that all depends on what happens with the leadership. They will run the platform into the ground if things remain.
However, if they accept and acknowledge failures, they can fix and move it in a better direction. The future card gives me some hope that things could improve.
Future: King of Cups
The King of Cups is in the future position, which represents emotional intelligence, compassion, and leadership.
This card suggests that the leadership has the potential to turn things around on Medium by tapping into their emotional intelligence and using their intuition to guide them.
The King of Cups advises them to lead with empathy and compassion, which will help them navigate any challenges.
This card also indicates they may benefit from a more balanced and emotionally centered approach. This can happen in two ways.
One is that Tony and the crowd truly will accept the defeat they are facing today and do the right thing to improve the platform, or brand new competent leadership will take over to turn things around for the better, which means they will give a damn about their writers and compensate them in a better way which will keep them motivated.
Therefore, even though things are looking very bad for Medium right now, this reading suggests you not lose hope because of a change of leadership, either in the way the existing ones can manage the platform in a better way or new leadership that has better intentions for the Medium writers will turn things around for the better.
If things change in a month from now, I can do another reading to see if the path has genuinely changed. Therefore, I will not give up on the platform and will watch and see what happens.
I also have some exciting things for November, as my book, Overcoming Echoism With Tarot: Using Tarot For Boundary Setting And Stopping People-Pleasing, will be out in about three weeks, and I will keep you updated.
I am also launching a podcast, The Tarot Table, soon. I will keep you updated on those things. Until then, have a great weekend!
So, as many people saw on an upcoming Refugee article, I did a spread. I see resignations. Oddly enough, my pulls had a lot of women talking. There may be women who end up pulling strings in the background.
I just left Medium and hope I made the right move!"
