Mental health is such a broad subject that many ways to describe it. As every person has a unique way of feeling or expressing emotions, there can never be a universal set of criteria that applies to everyone. However, people experience some common symptoms when they have a mental health issue. In addition, the severity of a person's symptoms varies according to the type of mental health disorder they are suffering from.
There is a lot of misinformation about depression and tarot reading, so I decided to write about them. I will outline the symptoms of depression and how you can use Tarot cards to help the reader better understand themselves in this article.
One of the most common mental disorders is depression. According to WebMD, the definition of depression has changed over time. Once upon a time, if your mood was low or you felt like doing nothing, it was caused by "a touch of the blues," which many people experienced only during depressing situations like finals week. While this is true, doctors diagnose numbness and a lack of motivation rather than sadness.
According to The Mayo Clinic, many people with depression have trouble feeling emotions even when something extraordinary happens, such as a birth or a wedding. Thus, it is difficult for them to make social connections, exacerbating the problem.
People suffering from depression can benefit from tarot cards since they help them understand themselves better. You can get a lot of information about the root of a problem by drawing three cards. And as you draw more cards over time, you can see your progress as you try to solve it.
Professional help is essential when dealing with mental health issues such as depression. Psychologists and counselors can also use tarot cards to help find the root of a problem. The Tarot is not magic; it's based on archetypes that symbolize inner conflict, which Carl Jung first explored in the early 1900s. By drawing three cards at a time, you can get a glimpse of your internal conflict. Try it out if you think it might benefit you or someone you know.
Tarot Can Help You Understand Your Internal Conflict That Happens With Depression
It has been a difficult day for you as depression has overtaken you. The best time to figure out why you had a bad day is right now. It is understandable if you cannot do this on a terrible day when you cannot get out of bed. Pick a day when you can function but are having a low mood. Take a moment to pull your cards and think about why you are struggling right now. Use one card instead of three if you prefer.
Let’s go over an example of what that may look like. If you pull one card, and you pull the Four of Wands, which is a card that has an association with a positive connotation, go and meditate on it and find out what it is telling you. The Four of Wands is a card that represents celebrations, having fun with friends, and celebrating milestones. You may feel that you have not accomplished much, which is typical for those with depression. However, the message on the card tells you to look at all of your achievements. It does not matter how big or small they are. The card urges you to celebrate those.
Everyone has achieved something, and depression will make you believe untrue. Therefore, this will get you thinking about your achievements and accomplishments. That is something you may want to talk to your therapist about if you have one. That is just one example of how tarot can help you with mental health.
Stay tuned on January 28th, 2022 is the launch of Swords of Depression, a podcast that ties mental health and tarot and how you can work with them. It will get you thinking, empathizing, and understanding so much more about the impacts of mental health as well.
