Episode 023: The Sun Tarot Card

There Are Bright Spots

The Sun is the 19th tarot card associated with happiness, vitality, and optimism.

This card is often interpreted as a sign of good things, such as success, new opportunities, and positive change.

It can also represent self-confidence, courage, and determination.

The Sun symbolizes growth, life, and energy, so the sun tarot card can also indicate that you are about to embark on a new phase in your life.

Now, let's talk about the history and appearance of the Sun card.

The History And Appearance of The Sun Tarot Card

The Sun first appears in tarot decks during the Renaissance. At this time, the Sun was seen as a powerful symbol of the divine.

Therefore, the sun card was often used to represent God, or the sun god, Apollo.

The Sun card has undergone many changes over the years.

Today, it is often seen as an optimistic card.

In the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, you will see that the card depicts a scene of a nude child riding a white horse while carrying a red flag.

The child and white horse represent happiness, purity, and innocence.

The Sun shines brightly in the sky behind them, representing the dawn of a new day or a new beginning.

However, it also means life on earth, and you will see that four sunflowers are growing above the brick wall underneath the Sun.

Those sunflowers represent the suits in the Minor Arcana and the elements that tie to them.

The Minor Arcana consists of the Swords suit, which correlates with the air element, Cups, which links with water, Wands associated with fire, and Pentacles connected with earth.

Now, let's talk about what it means when the Sun card comes up in a reading.

What It Means When The Sun Tarot Card Comes Up In A Reading

If you are experiencing a difficult time, the Sun tarot card can signify that better days are on the horizon.

This is a card of hope and happiness, so trust that things will eventually get better.

Have faith in yourself and your ability to overcome any obstacle.

The Sun tarot card is a reminder that you have the power to create your happiness.

When the Sun tarot card appears in a reading, it is often a sign that your hard work will pay off.

You may have been through a challenging time recently, but things are finally starting to look up.

This is a time to celebrate your accomplishments and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

The Sun tarot card is a reminder to savor the good times, as they will eventually end.

The Sun tarot card can signify that things will eventually get better if you go through a tough time.

This is a card of hope and happiness, so trust that things will improve.

Have faith in yourself and your ability to overcome any obstacle.

The Sun tarot card is a reminder that you have the power to create your happiness.

Things may be tough now, but better days are on the horizon.

Here is the thing, for those who struggle with depression, whether it is Major Depressive Disorder, Situational Depression, or what have you, it is hard to see that the Sun will ever come up.

And that is also accurate with Seasonal Affective Disorder which primarily affects those in the winter who live in colder climates because that is when the Sun is present.

The Sun does help your mental health. Then again, I have heard of some people experiencing depression during the summer.

According to WebMD, it is pretty common, and Dr. Ian Cook, the director of the Depression Research Program at UCLA, said a biological cause for depression in some people.

And for others who struggle during the hottest and sunniest time of the year, the stresses that come with summer can add to that.

So even though the sun shining can be good for your mental health, other aspects of the summer can cause depression in some people.

However, aside from that, those who struggle with depression struggle to see that the Sun will ever come up for them.

And you can say that is the case with Risa Green. Aside from the trauma, she struggles with.

She struggles with depression. Perhaps that is why she does not even want to attempt to work on managing her trauma and improving her life.

She does not see the point. The Sun is absent in her life.

She had a chance to improve her life, stick with her therapy, and keep taking her medication, which may have given her a few rays of sunshine.

However, she made it clear she was not interested.

And that is the thing with so many people who struggle with depression.

The motivation to look at silver linings and do something to help alleviate depressive symptoms, such as exercising, eating healthy food, limiting processed food such as sugar, and limiting the booze intake, is nonexistent.

When it comes to depression, there has to be a reason for someone who suffers from it to find it within them to become motivated.

Burnout and trauma will hinder that. That is the case for Risa, which was the case for me when I was at the height of my burnout.

And those who struggle with depression, including Risa, fit with the Sun in reverse as they do not resonate with the upright position.

Sun In Reverse

When the Sun comes in reverse, it indicates low vitality, false impressions, lack of clarity, disappointment, and sadness.

Something that appeared promising turned out to be disappointing.

As you can see, that fits Risa Green well and anyone who struggles with depression.

I also think of the Sun in reverse as being sleep-deprived as that will suck the life of you if you go so long without getting enough sleep.

That can also be a symptom of depression, and not getting enough sleep can cause depression or worsen it.

And everyone is going to have days when the Sun is in reverse.

Even the most upbeat people will have days like that because it is very human to experience that.

So now, let's talk about applying the Sun to your life.

How To Apply The Sun Tarot Card To Your Life

I am not here to tell you to use the Sun card when grieving or in one of those moods because you need to process those emotions before doing so.

But here is the thing. If there is something that you want to achieve, and you know in your heart that you will get it, then I would say look at the Sun card daily to remind yourself that as long as you keep working at whatever it is that you want, then you will get it.

Also, if you are in a mood but want to raise your spirits, that is the card to look at, which is something that I do from time to time.

Sometimes it helps. Other times, not so much.

And when it doesn't help, you should not force it and keep allowing yourself to feel what you need to feel!

Next, I will go over the second last card in the Major Arcana, another card that can be confusing to people, which is Judgment.
